There were two main things in this project that were challenging for me. The first was the artpiece we had to do in Mrs. Shani’s class. One of the reasons it was so challenging was because there was almost no structure for the project. I personally enjoy it more and I create better work when we have structure and set guidelines like in math. I think it would be better if we did this project again for there to be more structure on the artpiece but I could also ask more questions because I was confused for a while. The other aspect that was challenging for me was the writing piece in English for similar reasons as the artpiece. There were no requirements for the piece and we could write about pretty much anything that related to our character. If we were to do it again, it would help me, personally, to have more structure and guidelines.
I received feedback from a few classmates as well as my teacher. I do not remember specifically which of my classmates critiqued my work, but it was very helpful for me. Sometimes you do not see mistakes on your own work but when other people point it out, it sheds a new light on your piece. There were multiple mistakes I missed but it helped me when others told me. I changed it and it made my piece a lot better.
I am fairly proud of my piece but I think I could have done better. I did a lot of research but there was not a lot of information on my character or his activities, so that inhibited my abilities and the piece too. I could have done more, though, such as spending more time writing but I am pretty happy with how it turned out. My original piece was too short so I wrote a separate one that was related to the first but different.
I am actually very happy with how I did at exhibition. I did not expect for it to turn out that good, or for me to do as well as I did. I am very content with my performance at exhibition. I knew all the content that I was presenting and I felt confident when I talked to visitors. I shared about my character and also about the booth and what it was. I also felt that I did really well when I was presenting my game to visitors. Multiple people came and played the game, I explained how to play it, and they all enjoyed it too.
I interacted with guests very well and in a knowledgeable manner. I shared content with them and they learned a lot from it. I got a lot of compliments on my costume and that I did a good job. They were also impressed with the studio space, which I was in, and what a great job we did in transforming the environment into something that could be in the renaissance. The visitors also gave me a lot of positive feedback on how much information I knew and how well I could explain it to someone who had no idea what the renaissance was.
I would not change anything about this project if I could. It was very informative especially seeing how it connects to me today. My favorite part was probably reading the mental floss book, just not taking the tests. I learned so much from it and I found it actually fun and entertaining to read. I also really liked making the probability games and presenting it to guests. The writing piece and art piece also taught me a lot in other subjects. What I really liked is that we learned a wide variety of skills and content throughout our different classes all in one project.
I feel very confident that I understand the lasting impact of the Renaissance. The Renaissance shows how valuable it is to look at the past to build the future. I think we could do that currently in the 21st century. We could draw inspiration from past successes while making sure that we don’t make any mistakes that were made in the past. That is one of the main reasons we study history, to learn from past mistakes and successes.
