Throughout my freshman year, we had multiple writing pieces. There were eight main ones that we spent a lot of time working on. The first one was the cultural autobiography. This one was written from our perspectives and were basically short pieces taken from different points in our life that shaped us into who we are today. The link to it is below.
The second piece was called the Who Am I? poem and was similar to the first piece but written in poem form. They were lines that typically started with I am from and then a line from our life that made us into the person that we are today. Here is the link to my poem
The third major writing piece this semester was for a debate. In that project, Divided We Stand, we could choose to write a rap, tandem spoken word poetry, or a formal debate. I chose to do the debate with a partner about one of the California propositions that were on the ballot at the time. Below is the link to my speech.
The fourth writing piece from the first semester was a persuasive essay. In the project Free Your Mind, we were learning about psychic prisons, which are thoughts or ideas that trap our mind into habitual ways of thinking. We had to write about one thought that was constantly in our mind and holding us back from thinking freely. Then we explained how we were able to break out of that mindset. The link to my persuasive essay is below.
Another writing piece we had to do was a narrative about ourselves. It was about what it felt like, for us, to be 14. I struggled a bit with this because I'm not good at writing about myself and especially about my feelings. I spent a lot of time thinking about what to write for every line and in the end, it turned out pretty good and I'm proud of it. The link to it is below.
