A lot has changed in the book since the first post. They decided to travel to the coast before heading south. They have passed a few people. The first they passed was a group of the bad guys and the old man had to shoot one of them to save the boy. They took all their belongings, though, so they had nothing to eat. They kept walking but they ran out of food. Then they got to an underground bunker that had tons of food and they stayed there for a couple days. They took showers and it had everything they could've wanted. They had to leave after a few days and they took as much as they could carry. On the road they came across a blind man who was by himself. The old man wanted to leave him, but the boy begged him to give the man a couple cans of food. They gave him the food and went on their way. The old man was already going to die, but he was going to live a few more days thanks to them. This book reminds me of the maze runner because in both books they are trying to survive. They are both dystopian societies and the world is almost destroyed. In both of them there is this city that is a stronghold that is one of the last remaining places that is safe. In the Maze Runner it is the Last City, but in The Road it is the South. In the book there is no government that we know of. Everyone is just trying to survive by themselves. In real life, we have a democracy which is a government where the people have a say. These are two very different ways of living and order. I will comment on Jazmin's and Nia's blogs

For this project, we were able to choose a dystopian book to read. I chose to read The Road by Cormac McCarthy. So far in the book there is a father and his son who are moving south. It has gotten too cold to stay north so they have to travel south. They have a shopping cart with all their things, and knapsacks on their back in case they have to run. The world is full of gray ash and they are in what used to be the United States. They have to pass over mountains, and the father thinks they could die soon. He has strange dreams frequently but he tries to forget them. I have read multiple dystopian novels before but this one is very different from other ones. There have been no other people so far except for the main two characters. In other books, there are many people but they are all suffering. In other dystopian books, there is usually one person who is different or can save the rest of humanity. In this book there is really no hope yet, except for making it south and maybe finding other people there. A similarity is that there are two people who rely on each other two survive. In this book it is the boy and his father who take care of each other and protect one another. This book takes place on earth but I am not sure what time period it is in. I am guessing in the future, since the US no longer exists. It is a good book so far, but kind of slow. I am guessing it picks up after this. I will comment on Nia's and Jazmin's blogs.
